NEWPORT SET TO STAGE FIRST
EVER POOL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

Newport is set to be taken over by pool mania with the launch of a brand new open singles tournament ? the 2006 Newport Pool Open.

The singles tournament will be open to a maximum of 128 male or female players from the Newport & District region, including individuals from Gnosall, Muxton, Sambrook, Cheswardine, Hinstock, Tibberton, Edgmond, Church Eaton, Haughton and other surrounding areas. Entry fee is ?5.00 per person and each match will be played over the best of three frames. Entries close on Friday, August 25th and first round matches will be played over the subsequent two week-period.

Registered players will nominate their home venue and players drawn to play at home will benefit from home advantage. Away players are responsible for contacting their opponents to arrange the relevant fixtures. Each match winner must send notification of the result by TEXT MESSAGE to 07831 123153 or by post to NDP Publicity Services (address below). Progress tables and an update of the draw will be issued during the course of the tournament to landlords of relevant venues.

First round games must be played before September 16th
Second round games must be played before September 30th
Third round games must be played before October 10th

Subject to final numbers, there will be a substantial prize fund. Based upon a starting number of 128 players, the first prize for the inaugural Newport Open Pool Champion will be a brand new trophy and a cash prize of ?225.

The runner-up will take away a prize of ?125 and there will be a prize for the third-place play-off winner of ?75 and ?50 for fourth place. A proportion of the prize fund will also be donated to Newport Cottage Care Centre, subject to final entry numbers.

The semi-finals and 2006 Newport Pool Open Final will also be played over the best of three frames and will take place at the Railway Tavern, Upper Bar, on Tuesday, October 24th from 07.45 pm.

?Pool in Newport has a very strong following and the league is well-supported from Newport, Gnosall, Church Eaton, Tibberton, Muxton and the town itself,? said event promoter Neil Perkins of NDP Publicity Services. ?Now that the Newport Pool League has just finished, this is an ideal opportunity for individual players to try and become the first ever Newport Open Champion. We can no longer rely on our team mates. It?s down to the individual!?

Event organisers are asking individual pub and club landlords to be responsible for collecting the monies from their players and forwarding, along with a second copy of the entry form, to Dave Wilkinson at the Railway Tavern in Newport. Wilkinson will hold on to the cash proceeds until the 2006 Newport Pool Open final evening in October. The official prize presentation will take place immediately after the final game.

Completed original entry forms from each venue should be sent by first class post to NDP Publicity Services, NCH Building, Upper Bar, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 7EH or delivered with monies by hand to the Railway Tavern.
