HAIL SAUDI BAJA ORGANISERS FINALISE
PLANS FOR EXCITING FEBRUARY EVENT

T1 and T2 cars set for new Saudi challenge;
Event officials pledge challenging route format

HAIL (Saudi Arabia): The Saudi Motor Sports Committee (SMSC) has now completed the regulations for the Hail Saudi Baja, a new FIA-sanctioned candidate motorsport event that race officials hope will become a round of the FIA International Cup for Bajas as early as 2008. The event will take place on February 8th-11th, near Hail, in northern Saudi Arabia.

Event Vice Chairman and Clerk of the Course Walid Mihyar has now confirmed that the 2007 Hail Saudi Baja will run exclusively for cars complying with both FIA T1 and T2 regulations. Officials have the full support of Hail Development Authority and the event will run under the patronage of the Governor of Hail, HRH Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen Bin Abdul Aziz.

The event will take place over three days, with the first section of leg one consisting of a Super Special stage, around three kilometres in length, near the city of Hail. The next two days will be made up of all-desert, off-road competition, with the second section of leg one offering approximately 265 competitive kilometres and leg two stretching for 200 km to extend the total competitive route to around 465-470 km.

Foreign drivers and co-drivers will be offered free accommodation in Hail, two free return air tickets, 200 litres of free fuel during the selective sections and $1000.00 USD towards transportation of vehicles.

??We have come up with a generous assistance package for overseas competitors and are confident that the Hail Saudi Baja will attract a large number of foreign visitors and entrants from Saudi Arabia,?? said Mishaal Fahad Al-Sudairy, Chairman of the Organising Committee. ??We have already received interest from as far afield as Italy, France and the UK and, of course, from other GCC countries. There has also been interest in a possible bike category and that is something we will look at for the future.??
