SWEET LAMB SET TO HOST ROUND FOUR OF 2007

MATADOR TYRES MSA BRITISH OFF-ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP

Abergavenny’s Keith Lewis takes BORC lead to Sweet Lamb;

David Nutter and David Brown set for Trophy showdown

NEWTOWN (Wales): Newtown-based Marches 4×4 Motorsport Management Limited have confirmed that the fourth round of this year’s Matador Tyres MSA British Off-Road Championship (BORC) will take place at the Sweet Lamb Rally Complex, near Llangurig, in place of the original venue in Radnor forest. The two-day event is scheduled for September 8th-9th, 2007.

After three rounds at Bleddfa, Baden Hall and Castle O’er in Scotland, Abergavenny’s Keith Lewis holds a slender four-point lead in the championship following his outright win in Scotland.

Arch rival Richard Kershaw had been the man to beat after April’s event at Baden Hall in Staffordshire and the pair are likely to go head-to-head next weekend in a bid to take an all-important points’ advantage into the final round at the end of October.

Preston’s Gordon Monaghan was the winner of the second round at Baden Hall and he holds third place in the championship before Sweet Lamb and is within striking distance of the leading duo at the wheel of his Monaghan RS. Stirling’s John Cockburn is a close fourth, although fifth-placed Toby Jefferson still has a chance of taking the title.

No less than 45 drivers have scored points in this year’s BORC, a testament to the popularity of this form of off-road motorsport in the UK, which is sure to gain in strength and entry numbers over the coming months following the success of the recent Baja GB in Wales.

Neil Davey, the recent Y Rali Bryn Cymru winner Dan Lofthouse, Alan Kirkland, Brian Farmer and Dave Harlow complete the top 10 heading into the Sweet Lamb weekend.

Eight drivers have scored points this season in the Trophy category and Burnley’s David Nutter will arrive in mid-Wales with a 12-point lead over David Brown, the winner of the Castle O’er Trophy round in his Land Rover.

The outcome of the championship looks set to be decided between this pair, although Matt Lowe still has a mathematical chance of causing an upset. Tim Hayday and Philip Elliott complete the top five prior to Sweet Lamb.

Marches 4×4 officials are expecting another bumper entry in the BORC, Trophy and Clubmen categories at Sweet Lamb, with many of this year’s registered drivers set to attend.

Entries are also expected from Great Dunmow’s Greg MacLeod – who competed in a powerful Bowler at the Castle O’er event and finished second in the Clubmen category – Shropshire’s Steve Cobbold and Northern Ireland’s Niall Meehan.

The event will be based at the Sweet Lamb Rally Complex, near Llangurig in mid-Wales, with the recent Baja GB facilities being used as rally control in the Sweet Lamb ‘bowl’. Signing-on and registration will take place on Saturday morning, before the competitive action fires into life on Saturday afternoon and draws to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon.

“We had planned to use a Radnor forest venue, but are delighted that we have the option of the excellent Sweet Lamb Rally Complex,” said clerk of the course Selwyn Kendrick. “It was a popular base for Baja GB a couple of weeks ago and is close to the special stages we will use over what promises to be an exciting weekend.”

Catering will be provided throughout the weekend and both adequate parking and camping facilities will be available. Spectators will also be welcome. Further information will be posted on the BORC page of www.marches4x4.com.
