NEWPORT POOL LEAGUE TO START ON NOVEMBER 12TH

New ‘Desert England Trophy’ for most improved player

NEWPORT (Shropshire): The 2007/2008 Newport & District Pool League gets underway on Wednesday, November 12th with 14 teams from the Newport, Gnosall and Telford areas preparing for a long and exciting season of pool.

Matches will take place every Wednesday evening between November and June with all registered teams also entered into the Newport Pool League Cup to play for the prestigious Neil Clark Memorial Trophy, won last season by the league-winning Audco A.

Neil Perkins of NDP Publicity Services is also delighted to announce a new annual award, which will be presented to the most improved player of the season.

The ‘Desert England Trophy’ has been donated to the Newport Pool League by David Williams, the author of an exciting new football fiction novel called Desert England, which has been published by Apex Publishing and went on sale earlier this year. The winner will also receive a signed copy of the book.

Williams is a work associate of Perkins. He hails from mid-Wales, works as a media consultant to the Royal Hashemite Court in Jordan and has already carried out several book signings at leading shops across the UK. Further details of the novel, which centres around England’s travelling soccer fans, can be found at www.desertengland.com.

Pool matches will again be played over the best of six frames, with four singles games and two doubles racks. Individuals can only play for one team during the course of the season and there will be no tie-break frame this year. Teams will score one point for a draw and three points for a win, but the bonus point that was introduced last season for 6-0 wins has been scrapped.

All match forms are to be delivered to Ian Roberts and/or Dave Wilkinson at the Railway Tavern in Newport and match results sent immediately by text message to 07831 123153.

Team registration is £30, including automatic entry into the Neil Clark Memorial Cup, and fees must be paid by the start of December and left with Ian Roberts at the Railway Tavern for the attention of Neil Perkins.
