KING’S HEAD GO TOP AS CHAMPIONS AUDCO MAKE WINNING START
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Defending champions Audco, King’s Head and Lilleshall Sports Centre got their campaigns in the 2007/2008 Newport & District Pool League off to winning starts, with 5-1, 6-0 and 4-2 victories over the Navigation A, Shakespeare B and Navigation B teams.
Only Andy Lycett and Anthony Heathcote blotted their copybooks during the opening day win for the Audco, while a Ben Longstaff defeat and a bad result for Dave Price and Nick Clewley in the doubles cost LSC two frames. The King’s Head were the early pacesetters last season and demolished newcomers Shakespeare B at Upper Bar.
Both the Audco B and the Wheatsheaf got off to useful winning starts, with 4-2 victories. The Wheatsheaf disposed of the rated Junction A after several close games at Chetwynd Aston, while the Audco youngsters – a breakaway group from last year’s winning Audco side – edged out the Railway Tavern. The Navy Club went down 4-2 at home to the Shakeapeare A side, with the Navy’s Norman Riley being seven-balled in his match.
All match forms are to be delivered to Ian Roberts and/or Dave Wilkinson at the Railway Tavern in Newport and match results sent immediately by text message to 07831 123153.
Team registration is £30, including automatic entry into the Neil Clark Memorial Cup, and fees must be paid by the start of December and left with Ian Roberts at the Railway Tavern for the attention of Neil Perkins.
