EMIRATI ROOKIE KEANU AL-AZHARI HEADS BACK TO ITALY
FOR FIA KARTING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGE
CASTREZZATO (ITALY): Young Emirati kart racer Keanu Al-Azhari returns to the Franciacorta circuit in Italy for the second time in less than three weeks to tackle this weekend’s FIA Karting European Championship.
The Tony Kart Racing Team rookie is competing in the OK Senior category this season and has already visited the track on two occasions this season, most recently finishing 27th in the final round of the Champions of the Future Euro 2022 Series, after being cladsified 10th in a Winter Series round at the end of February.
A staggering 85 racers are registered for the OK Senior category, while a further 89 will compete in the OK Junior section.
Joining Al-Azhari in the Tony Kart Racing Team are Italy’s Luigi Coluccio and James Egozi, Finland’s Tuukka Taponen and Juho Valtonen, Great Britain’s Joseph Turney, Poland’s Jakub Rasjki, Austria’s Oscar Wurz and China’s Ruiqi Lui.
Al-Azhari said: “Our preparations for this weekend’s FIA European Championship have been perfect. I feel great and the Tony Kart with Vortex engine feels great. I’m very much looking forward to the race and hope to do the UAE proud.
“I’m enjoying racing in the Senior category. It feels very natural to me. Franciacorta is a fast and smooth circuit, as it was just built recently.”
Technical checks and a briefing take place today (Thursday, July 7th), before competitors take part in free practice sessions and qualifying practice early on Friday. Racers will then tackle the first series of 12-lap qualifying heats on Friday afternoon.
After a short warm-up session on Saturday morning, there will be a two further sets of 12-lap qualifying heats for the OK Senior runners.
A pair of 16-lap Super Heats take centre stage at 10.30hrs and 11.20hrs on Sunday and precede a 24-lap OK final, starting at 13.50hrs.
