2025 UIM-ABP European Continental Aquabike Championship
MOTO 2 WINS FOR DOMANTAS, CHAVANNE, PEREZ AND BOSSCHE ON SUNDAY MORNING IN POLAND
Sunday, June 1: Lithuania’s Vaznys Domantas, the French duo of Jessica Chavanne and Jérémy Perez and Belgian Quinten Bossche won the second of the three Runabout GP2, Ski Ladies GP1, Runabout GP1 and Ski Division GP1 Motos that got the hectic on-water action underway at the Grand Prix of Poland on Jeziorskomeer on Sunday morning.
Victory in Moto 3 gave Hungary’s Csongor Jaszai the Grand Prix win in Ski GP3 and Polish rider Juliusz Roman secured success in the Runabout GP4 section with his second Moto win of the weekend.
Frenchman Mathys Mezière wrapped up the Ski GP4 section with a third Moto win of the weekend. Czech racer Nikola Dryjakova finished third in the last of the Runabout Ladies GP4 Motos but that was sufficient to earn the Grand Prix win. Estonia’s Carmen Roosmaa won the last of the Motos.
Domantas wins his second Runabout GP2 Moto
Vaznys Domantas had won the opening Runabout GP2 Moto and started on pole for the second heat that kickstarted Sunday’s hectic itinerary. The Lithuanian held his line from Petr Dryjak, Arnas Jakucionis and Justin Patzner through lap one. Tom Claerhout and Alejandro Prats Palau settled into fifth and sixth. Thirteen riders began the Moto but local rider Konrad Wróbel was a non-starter.
Mattias Siimann managed to move ahead of Claerhout and Prats Palau on lap five but Domantas had already forged his way into a 10-second lead over Dryjak at the front of the field. Siimann was on a charge and the talented Estonian displaced Jakucionis to take third place on lap seven, as Dryjak began to reel in Domantas in the fight for victory.
The Lithuanian managed to hold to take a second haul of 25 points with the flying Siimann and Dryjak wrapping up the podium places ahead of Jakucionis, Claerhout and Prats Palau. But there was disappointment for Siimann after the finish when he was penalised one lap for not respecting a penalty buoy. That pushed him down to eighth overall and, as a result, Dryjak, Jakucionis, Claerhout and Prats Palau rounded off the final top five behind Domantas. The Lithuanian takes an eight-point lead over Dryjak into the final Moto.
Chavanne wins second Ski Ladies GP1 Moto; Ypraus charges back to finish third
Former Jessica Chavanne had benefitted from the defending World Champion Jasmiin Ypraus’s mechanical breakdown in the first of the Motos to take the maximum 25 points. But Ypraus was out for revenge in Moto 2 from the rear of the eight-girl starting line-up.
Chavanne stayed in control through the opening turn buoys and through the first couple of laps and began to pull away from Virginie Morlaes, Lou Dardillat and Naomi Benini. But Ypraus was on a charge, moved into fifth place and began to close in on Benini. She passed the Italian on lap five and then displaced Dardillat on the next lap to move into third and, with the Moto still at half-distance, she had to somehow reduce Morlaes’s 17-second grip on second place.
The gap was down to 13 seconds through lap seven and to just under nine through lap eight, as Chavanne headed off into the distance at the front of the field. By lap nine, the gap was just under six seconds and it was 3,24 seconds after 10 tours of the course to set up a gripping finale to the Moto. Ypraus dropped precious seconds on the next one but clawed herself back within striking distance, only for the chequered flag to save Morlaes and hand Chavanne a dominant 30-second win and a second 25-point haul. Behind Ypraus, Dardillat and Benini finished fourth and fifth. Joana Graça only completed nine of the 13 laps.
Runner-up Morlaes trails Chavanne by six points heading into Moto 3. She said: “I do a good start and I tried to push a lot. I see Yasmiin coming. I am happy because she (Yasmiin) is really strong.”
Runabout GP1 win number two for Jérémy Perez
Frenchman Jérémy Perez and World Champion Samuel Johansson had controlled the pace in the first of the Runabout GP1 Motos and Perez was at it again at the start of Moto 2. He completed the opening two laps ahead of Portugal’s Lino Araùjo, Johansson, local star Andrzej Wisniewski, Linus Lindberg and debutant Robin Laforge.
Six laps in and the leaders held their positions with Perez pulling over four seconds ahead of the Portuguese, who was running four in front of Johansson. Pierre François Savelli managed to pass Laforge to grab sixth and then lost the place again. Lindberg lost two places on the next couple of laps but Perez had already surged into a 10-second lead and the flying Frenchman was not to be denied a second heat win of the weekend and another 25 points.
Araùjo and Johansson were locked in a tight duel for second place and the Swede crossed the finish line to take the 22 points with Araùjo in third. Wisniewski delighted his home fans with fourth and Laforge and Savelli rounded off the top six.
Last gasp Ski GP1 Moto 2 win for Bossche
Mickaël Poret had managed to hold off Quinten Bossche to take the spoils in the first of the Ski Division GP1 Motos but the Belgian was out to exact revenge in heat two.
Poret has other ideas and the Frenchman held the lead through the opening laps from Oliver Koch Hansen and Bossche. Anders Keller, Valentin Dardillat and Yoni Hamelin trailed in their wake after 21 riders had taken the start. Morgan Poret was down in eighth behind Phil Segers. Both Hamelin and Morgan Poret each moved up a place soon afterwards but Mickaël Poret continued to hold a slender lead over Koch Hansen and Bossche heading into lap nine.
Poret looked set to take his second Moto win of the weekend but Bossche had other ideas. He passed Koch Hansen with a couple of minutes on the clock and then found a way to pass Poret to snatch the win to set up the prospect of a thrilling Moto 3 decider in the afternoon. Hamelin, Dardillat and Morgan Poret rounded off the top six.
Mickaël Poret said: “I start first and I kept calm and I have a lot of speed. I managed my race very well. Then, on the last lap, I have two lappers in front of me and I have to make a coin flick and I chose the blue one. Unfortunately, the guy in front of me stopped and I could do nothing. I know I have the speed. I am not tired and I have a lot of energy left for Moto 3.”
Jaszai clinches Ski GP3 win with Moto 3 success
Csongor Jaszai earned a hard-fought win in the third of the Ski GP3 Motos and the 25 points enabled the Hungarian to take the Grand Prix laurels by seven points from his Croatian rival Dorijan Jakopanec.
Jaszai passed the chequered flag over half a minute ahead of Loris Lambert with Manuel Leite of Portugal narrowly edging out Jakopanec for third place. Ten riders competed in Moto 3 and Alexandre Bourgeois and Michael van Reybroeck were classified in fifth and sixth with Lambert finishing third in the weekend’s Grand Prix.
Roman wins Runabout GP4 Grand Prix
Local rider Juliusz Roman was able to confirm the Grand Prix win in Runabout GP4 with a comfortable win in the third of the Motos. He finished ahead of the Estonian duo of Arti Mölter and Henri Koppas with Alejandro Prats Palau crossing the finish line in fourth place.
Roman’s victory gave him a total of 72 points for a second place and two wins and enabled him to secure the win by 14 points from Moto 1 winner Prats Palau. Erikas Butkus rounded off the final podium and finished ahead of Lithuania’s Grantas Gurkšnys, Karol Puzelevic and Kutra Dovydas.
Mathys Mezière wins Ski GP4 Grand Prix
Mathys Mezière made it a clean sweep of the three Ski GP4 Motos to claim victory in Poland with a maximum 75 points. The Frenchman was the class of the field in Moto 3 to finish the heat ahead over 54 seconds ahead of fellow countryman Lucas Mouchotte. Latvia’s Daniils Potrivailo and Lithuania’s Grantas Gurkšnys were third and fourth. The result enabled Mouchotte to finish second at the Grand Prix.
Runabout Ladies GP4 success for Dryjakova; Moto 3 win for Roosmaa
Former European Champion Nikola Dryjakova started the last of the Runabout Ladies GP4 Motos with an eight-point advantage over Ester Rosin of Estonia.
Carmen Roosmaa moved ahead of her rivals in the third Moto and was able to hold off Rosin, Ilaria Vanni and Dryjakova as the heat progressed. Nicole Cadei and Markéta Hollerová settled into fifth and sixth of the dozen riders.
Roosmaa passed the chequered flag to secure a memorable heat win from Rosin. When Vanni was handed a two-lap penalty for a course violation and dropped out of contention for the heat podium, third was more than enough for Dryjakova to edge out Rosin and Roosmaa for Grand Prix success. Cadei, Hollerová, Aurora Filiberti and Kätriin Nilbe finished the Moto in fourth to seventh places. Lithuania’s Astra Gurkšnytė and Alizée Vanden-Blecke were eighth and ninth.
