GRAND PRIX WINS IN HUNGARY FOR JÁSZAI, MÖLTER, ERLACH AND DIMOV
Sunday, August 3: Action in four of the racing disciplines concluded at the end of a frantic final morning’s session of the Grand Prix of Hungary, near Győr, on Sunday.
Croatia’s Dorijan Jakopanec won the last of the Ski GP3 Motos but Grand Prix success in the category went to local rider Csongor Jászai. Estonian Arti Mölter led from start-to-finish in the final Runabout GP4 to confirm Grand Prix victory and Hungarian racer Marcus Erlach took the weekend’s honours in Ski GP4, despite seeing the Moto 3 win go to Frenchman Mathys Meziere.
Germany’s Michelle Dimov earned Grand Prix honours in Runabout GP4 Ladies even though European Championship leader Nikola Dryjakova won the final Moto.
Jakopanec wins Ski GP3 Moto 3; Grand Prix success for Jászai
Pole sitter Csongor Jászai headed into the third of the Ski GP3 Motos with a six-point lead over Dorijan Jakopanec in the Grand Prix standings. But the situation in the European Championship was much closer with Manuel Leite narrowly leading the way from Loris Lambert, Michael Van Reybroeck and Alexandre Bourgeois.
Jakopanec made the best getaway and headed Jászai, Bourgeois, Van Reybroeck, Lambert, Bram Hoeke and Leite through the opening lap. The top seven maintained their positions into the next few laps but Jászai continued to apply the pressure on the leading Croatian.
Jakopanec was not to be denied and he held on to claim the Moto win by 2.49 seconds with Jászai sealing victory in the overall Grand Prix by finishing second. The European Championship couldn’t be closer with Bourgeois, Van Reybroeck, Lambert picking up points for third, fourth and fifth and former leader Leite finishing seventh behind Hoeke. Unofficially, Lambert now leads the series by a single point from Leite and Van Reybroeck.
Runabout GP4 Grand Prix and Moto 3 glory for Mölter
Arti Mölter lined up for the last of the Runabout GP4 Motos with a 10-point cushion over Grantas Gurkšnys and Alejandro Prats Palau in the battle for Grand Prix success. Juliusz Roman held a slender advantage over Gurkšnys in the European Championship.
Mölter started quickly out of the blocks and moved ahead of Henri Koppas, Prats Palau, Gurkšnys and Karol Puzelevic. Roman was languishing down in ninth place before Puzelevic passed his Lithuanian countryman Gurkšnys to grab fourth.
Mölter held off Koppas by 4.33 seconds to give Estonia a 1-2 finish with Prats Palau claiming the final podium spot and Puzelevic and Gurkšnys rounding off the top five. Mölter duly claimed the Grand Prix win and Gurkšnys regained the European Championship advantage over Roman before the final round in France in September.
Ski GP4 Grand Prix success for Erlach; Moto 3 win for Meziere
Ander-Hubert Lauri and Marcus Erlach had won a Moto apiece and headed into the final Ski GP4 Moto showdown tied on 47 points apiece in their quest for Grand Prix success. Vansiden Kay, Daniils Potrivailo and European Championship leader Mathys Meziere lined up behind.
Osman Min and Kay made the best starts and managed to stay ahead of Erlach and Meziere after Lauri had pulled up on the opening lap. The Hungarian trio stayed out in front as Meziere consolidated his series lead in fourth place and then moved ahead of Erlach to take third. Potrivailo and Grantas Gurkšnys were fifth and sixth.
Min held on to win the heat by 3.20 seconds from Kay with Meziere strengthening his grip on the European Championship in third, Grand Prix winner Erlach finishing fourth and Potrivailo and Gurkšnys rounding off the top six.
But Min was later docked a lap for dangerous driving and that gifted the Moto win to Meziere from Erlach, Potrivailo and Gurkšnys. Behind Erlach, Kay and Meziere finished second and third in the Grand Prix.
Dimov wins Runabout GP4 Ladies Grand Prix: Moto 3 success for Dryjakova
Michelle Dimov’s reward for winning the second of the Runabout Ladies GP4 Motos was pole for the showdown with European Championship leader Nikola Dryjakova for Grand Prix success. The German lined up ahead of Kätriin Nilbe, Dryjakova, Ilaria Vanni, Nicole Cadei and Astra Gurkšnytė.
Dryjakova was in determined mood and the Czech snatched the early advantage from Nilbe, Dimov, Kimily Lepp, Katarina Sepp and Gurkšnytė. Dryjakova held a lead of 3.51 seconds through lap five and the Czech held on to take Moto honours by 2.32 seconds from Nilbe and Dimov, with the latter securing the Grand Prix win from Dryjakova and Filiberti.
Lepp, Sepp, Gurkšnytė, Aurora Filiberti and Cadei rounded off the top eight places in the Moto but Nilbe was then penalised 25 seconds for not maintaining her lane at the start and slipped to seventh with Dimov finishing second, ahead of Lepp, Sepp, Gurkšnytė and Aurora Filiberti.
