JORDAN MOTORSPORT ANNOUNCES RECORD CAR AND MOTORCYCLE ENTRY FOR NEXT WEEKEND’S JORDAN BAJA
AMMAN (JORDAN): Jordan Motorsport has released a record-breaking entry list for next weekend’s Jordan Baja, the second rounds of the FIA World and Middle East Baja Cups and the FIM Bajas World Cup and FIM Asia Bajas Cup.
Thirty-five cars have been entered in the FIA category, in addition to 25 riders competing in the FIM section, 13 teams taking part in a Jordan National Baja and a number of amateur crews running in the third Wadi Al-Qamar Navigational Rally.
Fifteen of the FIA entrants will be chasing FIA World Baja Cup points with 17 of the remaining 20 registered for the four-round FIA Middle East Baja Cup. The number is further broken down into six crews in the Ultimate category, seven in Challenger, 15 in SSV and seven in the Stock group.
The FIM category features 21 motorcycle riders and four quad entrants with seven of the bikers competing for points in the Veterans’ section, two entered in the Junior class and one in the Women’s category.
Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah won the opening round of the FIA season in Saudi Arabia last weekend and tops the car entry in a two-wheel drive MD Sport Optimus Evo 5 Buggy with his Dakar-winning navigator Fabian Lurquin. The Qatari is the current leader of the FIA Middle East Baja Cup.
Competition in the Ultimate category comes from the Toyotas of defending regional champion Dania Akeel and South Africa’s Saood Variawa. Czech veteran Miroslav Zapletal, Frenchman Lionel Baud and Ahmed Al-Shamy will also be in the hunt.
Yasir Seaidan followed up second place in the Challenger group at the Dakar Rally with victory in Saudi Arabia last weekend and the Taurus Evo Max driver heads six Challenger rivals. He is also second in the overall regional Drivers’ Championship standings behind Al-Attiyah.
Hamed Al-Wahaibi and Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari will be chasing FIA World Baja Cup points, while David Mabbs, Nouef Al-Sowaidi and Abdullah Al-Fahad concentrate on the regional Baja Cup. Entrant Andrey Novikov is not registered for either series.
Fernando Alvarez is the early leader in the FIA World Baja Cup’s SSV category and the Argentina-based Can-Am driver heads the 15-strong field with co-driver Xavier Panseri. World Cup competition will come from Mansour Al-Helai, Erik van Loon, Tomasz Bialkowski, Hedda Hosås and Moaz Hariri.
With the exception of the Jordanian crew of Farah and Bayan Zakaria, the remainder of the SSV field will be chasing regional Baja Cup points. Qatar’s Mohammed Al-Marri, Mohammed Al-Atteya and Ahmed Al-Kuwari, the Saudi duo of Hamad Al-Harbi and Maha Al-Hameli, Kuwait’s Dhari Al-Dhafeeri, Emirati Nora Al-Jassasi and San Marino-based Camelia Liparoti round off the SSV field.
Majed Al-Thunayyan is the defending FIA World Baja Cup champion in the Stock category and continues his title defence against Abdullah Al-Shegawi, Al-Mashna Al-Shammeri and Abdullah Al-Rabban. Abdulaziz Al-Saud will be chasing regional Baja Cup points.
British rider Alex McInnes dominated the opening FIM round in Ha’il and heads the impressive motorcycle field on his KTM 450 SXF. Riders from 11 nations will line up in Aqaba and Mohammed Al-Balooshi returns to try and win the event for a sixth time since 2019.
Rivals include Al-Balooshi’s brother Sultan, Abdulhalim Al-Mogheera, Abdullah Al-Shatti, local rider Abdullah Abu Aisheh, Rafic Eid and Philip Horlemann. Joanna Modrzewska is the sole female rider on the list.
Hani Al-Noumesi is the defending FIM quad champion and won the event in Saudi Arabia last weekend. He faces fellow countrymen Abdulaziz Al-Atawi, Ahmad Al-Jaber and Haitham Al-Tuwaijri in the Hashemite Kingdom next weekend.
The unofficial Jordan National Baja entry features 11 Palestinian crews and two from Jordan. Mahmoud Al-Jabbarin and Anwar El-Sana head the field in a Hyundai Buggy.
This year’s event is based at the Hyatt Regency Aqaba Ayla Resort. The venue will host all pre-event formalities, the official start and ceremonial finish.
