MOTO 2 WINS IN HUNGARY FOR JÁSZAI, MÖLTER, LAURI, DIMOV, BEERNAUT, KETE, VAINIO, WASILEWSKI AND REINASS

Saturday, August 2: Nine of the second Motos at the Grand Prix of Hungary, near Győr, took place on Saturday afternoon.

Csongor Jászai dominated the second of the Ski GP3 Motos and Arti Mölter and Ander-Hubert Lauri prevailed in Runabout GP4 and Ski GP4. Those heats paved the way for the second of the Runabout GP4 Ladies Motos and Michelle Dimov claimed the top spot on the podium.

Milo Beernaut and Leo Kete then earned the laurels in the second of the Ski GP3.2 and Ski GP3.3 Junior World Championship Motos and Jose Vainio finished on top in the second Runabout GP4 Junior World Championship heat.

Saturday afternoon’s action concluded with the second of the Runabout Veterans GP1 and Ski GP2 Motos. Adam Wasilewski and Mattias Reinass earned the Moto wins and the 25 championship points.

Jászai wins his second Ski GP3 Moto

Victory in the opening Ski GP3 Moto gave Csongor Jászai pole position for Moto 2 ahead of Dorijan Jakopanec and Manuel Leite, the latter heading into the Moto in a tussle with Loris Lambert for European Championship glory after being docked two laps for missing turn buoys in Moto 1.

Jászai continued where he had left off in the first heat on Friday, took the lead and began to edge away from Michael Van Reybroeck, Leite, Alexandre Bourgeois and Bram Hoeke.

By lap five, his lead had grown to 7.81 seconds and he held on to earn a second win of the weekend by 11.44 seconds. Van Reybroeck picked up 20 precious points for finishing third after being overtaken by Jakopanec near the finish.

Leite was fourth and managed to pick up valuable points in his quest to beat ninth-placed Lambert to the series title, while Bourgeois and Hoeke were fifth and sixth of the 11 starters. Jászai now takes a six-point lead over Jakopanec into Sunday’s final Moto to determine the outcome of the Grand Prix.

Mölter earns Moto 2 win in Runabout GP4

Grantas Gurkšnys headed into the second of the Runabout GP4 Motos with a slender lead over Juliusz Roman in the European Championship. The Lithuanian was also on pole ahead of Arti Mölter, Henri Koppas, Erikas Butkus and Karol Puzelevic.

The race was red-flagged almost immediately after a crash involving Puzelevic that cost him any chance of picking up points. Mölter took advantage from the eventual restart to snatch the lead from Gurkšnys, Alejandro Prats Palau, Roman, Jurica Marovic and Butkus. Koppas pulled his finger out as the Moto developed and was soon up to second place with Gurkšnys, Prats Palau and Roman slipping back to hold third, fourth and fifth.

The two Estonians at the head of the field began to slug it out for glory and Mölter fended off his rival’s challenge to seal the win by 1.78 seconds. But Gurkšnys, Koppas and Dovydas Kutra were all handed yellow cards for dangerous driving and also one lap penalties for causing the Moto to be interrupted. That turned the result of the Moto upside down with Mölter eventually topping the standings by 13.36 seconds from Prats Palau, Roman, Butkus and Jurica Marovic. Koppas later had an appeal against the penalty rejected by UIM officials.

Roman moved back into the European Championship lead and Mölter leads Gurkšnys and Prats Palau by 10 points in the battle for Grand Prix honours.

Young Lauri earns Moto 2 win in Ski GP4

German rider Marcus Erlach’s reward for winning the opening Ski GP4 Moto was pole position ahead of Mathys Meziere, Ander-Hubert Lauri, Daniils Potrivailo and Grantas Gurkšnys. The race was red-flagged and there was a slight delay before the restart.

Erlach made the better getaway and stayed clear of Lauri, Vansiden Kay, Potrivailo and Osman Min. Championship leader Meziere was down in seventh on the opening lap and then climbed to sixth at the expense of Lucas Mouchotte and fifth after passing Min.

Erlach stayed out front for almost the entire duration of the Moto only to be passed by Lauri in the final seconds. Erlach and Kay rounded off the podium finishers with Potrivailo and Meziere finishing fourth and fifth of the 10 starters. Erlach is now tied with Lauri on 47 points apiece in the Grand Prix standings, but Meziere remains in control of the overall championship.

Dimov wins Runabout GP4 Ladies Moto 2

Aurora Filiberti had earned pole for the second Runabout Ladies GP4 Moto by topping the standings in Moto 1 and the Italian took the start ahead of Michelle Dimov, Nikola Dryjakova, Ilaria Vanni, Kimily Lepp and eight other rivals.

But Dimov was on form, led from the get-go and stayed clear of Dryjakova, Kätriin Nilbe, Vanni, Filiberti, Nicole Cadei and Astra Gurkšnytė. Lepp and Gracija Tomasevsk crashed out on the opening lap.

Dimov stayed ahead of the championship-leading Dryjakova as the leaders held their positions until Filiberti slipped to the rear of the field on lap three and that lifted Cadei and Gurkšnytė into fifth and sixth. Dimov eventually secured the win by 2.23 seconds from Nilbe and Dryjakova with Vanni, Cadei and Gurkšnytė completing the top six. Dimov now leads the Grand Prix standings by seven points from Dryjakova.

Beernaut on course for Ski Junior GP3.2 title with Moto 2 win

Belgian rider Milo Beernaut had been a class above his two rivals, Topi Järvenpää and Noam Bíró Santos, in the opening Ski GP3.2 World Championship Moto and started Moto 2 on pole.

The Belgian stayed out in front and Santos slotted into second place ahead of Järvenpää. The trio stayed in those positions for the remainder of the Moto with Beernaut winning by 8.33 seconds and collecting a second 25-point haul to take another step towards the World Championship crown. He now takes an eight-point cushion over both his rivals into the final Moto on Sunday.

Second successive Ski Junior GP3.3 Moto win for Kete

Leo Kete had won the opening Ski Junior GP3.3 World Championship Moto and headed Marvin Bohuslav and Ali Al-Ali into the start of Moto 2.

The Hungarian has been riding well in the European Championship this season with six maximum Moto scores and he hit the front from the start of the heat and began to edge away from Al-Ali. Bohuslav, Maxime Arthebise, Pelle Stenborg and Jose Vainio settled into the other leading positions in the top six.

Kete held on to claim a 3.58-second win over his closest Emirati rival with Bohuslav, Arthebise, Stenborg and Vainio holding strong in third, fourth, fifth and sixth of the eight finishers. Aksel Rauhansalo retired after one lap. Kete now leads the World Championship by eight points from Bohuslav and Al-Ali with one Moto remaining.

Vainio on top again in second Runabout GP4 Junior World Championship Moto

After finishing sixth moments before in a Ski Junior GP3.3 heat, Jose Vainio led the way into the second of the Runabout GP4 Junior World Championship Motos from Rihard Leinsalu, Aurora Filiberti, Katarina Sepp and Kimily Lepp.

Vainio started well and moved ahead of Filiberti, Leinsalu, Lepp, Sepp, Ayrton Cecere, Francesco Bassenghi and Adas Zalagaitis.  The eight youngsters held their positions through the opening two laps and there were no changes to the procession with just three minutes on the clock.

Vainio duly held on to claim a second win of the weekend by 4.55 seconds and put himself in a strong position to secure the world title on Sunday. He takes an eight-point lead over a tying Filiberti and Leinsalu into the final heat. They rounded off the podium places from Lepp, Cecere, Sepp, Bassenghi and Zalagaitis.

Wasilewski wins second Runabout Veterans GP1 Moto

Hungarian racer György Kasza had got the better of championship leader Adam Wasilewski in the opening Runabout Veterans GP1 Moto and lined up ahead of the Pole, Hansi Reichardt and Arkadiusz Bartyzel for Moto 2. Sándor Major and Sergei Prokofjev rounded off the starters.

Kasza used his starting position effectively to stay out in front and Reichardt managed to pass Wasilewski and grab second place. But the Pole hit back quickly and regained his position as Prokofjev moved ahead of Major and into fifth.

Wasilewski began to apply the pressure on the local rider and he found a way to pass the struggling Hungarian to win the Moto by 24.45 seconds and take a Grand Prix lead of four points into the last day. The success also enabled the Pole to extend his European Championship advantage over third-placed Bartyzel to an unofficial 13 points with one Moto left to run on Sunday. Reichardt came home in second with Kasza, Prokofjev and Major finishing fourth, fifth and sixth.

Reinass takes his second Ski GP2 Moto win

Mattias Reinass lined up on pole for the second of the Ski GP2 Motos and the last of the competitive action on Saturday in Hungary. Behind the Estonian were European Championship leader Daan Hoeke, Csongor Jászai, the Estonian duo of Marlon and Marten Tiik, Thailand’s Tanawid Mollee, Karl Joosep Steinberg and Luuk Hoeke. Thirteen riders took the start.

Reinass held off Kásza through the opening lap but Daan Hoeke slipped to fifth behind Marlon Tiik and Steinberg. The leading quintet then held station for the next few laps. Reinass managed to keep a gap between himself and Kasza and reached the finish with a winning margin of 3.25 seconds to put him in a strong position for Grand Prix success on Sunday. Tiik, Steinberg and Daan Hoeke rounded off the top five with Hoeke ceding some of his European Championship advantage to Steinberg.
